October Readathon: THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT

It's one of my favorite times of the year - - the leaves are changing and nights are getting cooler (depending on where you live), Halloween is soon upon us and it's the perfect setting to curl up with a good scary book.  As such, I've decided to have a spooky themed Readathon here at Psychotic State Book Reviews during the month of October and would love for you to join me!

How to Sign Up

To sign up, make a post on your blog, Facebook or Twitter about participating.  Add the THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT button to your sidebar, linking back to this post so others can join in if they wish.  Please help to spread the word!  Beginning on October 1, add your blog posts using the Mr. Linky widget that will be below.

UPDATED:  Mr. Linky has been added!  Please link using the title of the book you are reviewing, rather than your name and/or blog name and be sure to include the URL.

Rules

The rules are, there are no rules! (TM Kenicky, Grease).  Anyone may participate.  You can read one book during the month or one for each day, whatever you choose.  You can join in today or at any time during the month of October.  If you don't have a blog, you may use Facebook, Twitter or Goodreads.

Books to Read

Any type of horror, or sub-genre of horror, including the paranormal, supernatural, suspense, mystery, thriller (including murder, psychological, supernatural or spooky driven/themed), monster (vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, zombies, aliens and the like) and monster mash up, and true crime.  Any book that makes you squirm can qualify!

Posts

Post your book reviews, your thoughts on scary books, interviews with authors of scary books, your top ten scariest books, etc.  Any post dealing with all things horror and spooky will be accepted and appreciated.

Giveaways

Once THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE  NIGHT ends, I will be giving away some of the books that I have reviewed during the month to lucky readers.  Titles to be determined.  Each Readathon post will count as an entry toward the giveaway.  The  more books you review during the month, the greater your chance to win!

Event Details

*  Kick off:  Saturday, October 1 at 12:00 a.m., your local time
*  Closes:  Monday, October 31 at 11:59 p.m., your local time

Happy reading!

I love horror, but don't get to read much of it lately (just read a new anthology "The Endlands" which was very good). This sounds like great fun and one of my groups is doing a week-long read-a-thon at the beginning of October so I will set aside some horror to read.

Scariest book - Pet Sematary by King

Most horrifying book: - Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The bad guy is a seven foot hairless albino who is polylingual and likes to kill children. Worst of all, he's based on a real person.

Another great horror novel - Night of the Hunter by Davis Grubb. Imagine Faulkner writing a psycho-thriller. And extraordinary read.

Ps. I'm reposting because I wasn't sure if my comment went through.

Mac, thank you for the horror suggestions. It's been years since I read Pet Sematary and I haven't heard of the others so I will definitely have to check them out!

Should I link a beginning blog post in the linky? It looks like it's just for reviews. Or should I leave the link in the comments?

Sorry I'm so late. I totally missed it until I saw it on Facebook tonight!

Lori said...

Hi Michelle!
Sure, go ahead and leave a beginning blog post in Mr. Linky. I'm okay with the links being anything Readathon/spooky related.
Thanks so much for joining in!

Lori,
I messed up the link I posted. Natasha's book isn't really related to the spooky theme. Can you delete it so I can repost another one?

Nikki said...

Lori...where do we post the links?

Lori said...

Hi Nikki,
Just add your links to the Mr. Linky attached to this post.

Look forward to reading your reviews!
