My Thoughts on The Metabolism Solution by Lisa Lynn

It's the New Year and you know what that means - - resolutions!  When I make resolutions, a fairly constant of mine (and a large majority of the population) is to get healthier.  Being over forty, I have found that it's more and more difficult to keep my weight where I'd like it and stay fit.  Add this to changes in my sleeping patterns and energy levels and well . . . blech!  I have tried a handful of "quick fixes" over the last few years to alleviate and/or cease these symptoms and weight gain. When a book comes across my path that will give me tips and encouragement on healthier living, I don't hesitate to give it a read.  So The Metabolism Solution showed up at exactly the right time.

The good of The Metabolism Solution is that author Lisa Lynn breaks down everything from diet to exercise to even your mindset.  Of course many such books will give you advice and direction on diet and exercise but it's a nice change to have an author focus on your emotional state, which does play a part in how your body operates. 

I greatly appreciated that Ms. Lynn stressed that your clothing size and/or weight size is not vital.  As she stated in the book "The scale is not your God." 

Ms. Lynn does write of her belief and faith in God and how it plays a part in her overall fitness.  Readers who do not wish for religion or spirituality to be a part of their reading acumen may find this objectionable but it is an ingredient to the author's success. 

One of the best parts of The Metabolism Solution is the section at the end containing a plethora of great recipes.  I have not tried any of them yet myself (holidays, travel and then illness) but plan on doing so as they sound not only yummy but relatively easy to prepare with items readily accessible in your pantry.    

The cons of The Metabolism Solution?  The push of Ms. Lynn's products.  Look, I get that she wants to sell her goods - - as of course she should - - but the fairly strong push of them in the book makes portions of the book read like a lengthy sales pamphlet.   That said, the sales pitch didn't turn me off from the book or negate the positive information to be found in the pages. 

If you are looking for a way to jumpstart your weight loss and ramp up your metabolism, this is a good book for you.

Interview with Lisa Lynn

1.  Where did you learn these metabolic boosting techniques?

I learned the metabolic boosting techniques through my own struggles which led me to dig deeper into the research on weight gain and what stops us from losing weight. I also mentored with Dr. Fred Hatfield who taught me how our whole body is connected, so we need to address not just the physical aspects of weight loss but the emotional and psychological aspects as well because they are directly related to weight loss and must be addressed for lasting weight loss. This is what makes me very different from any other plan. You can't just rah rah people. You have to dig deep at what is underneath the need to over feed ourselves or to learn why what we are doing isn't working while we continue to repeat our behaviors.

2. You mentioned that there are myths that are keeping most of us form losing weight. What are they?

Most of what we have learned about weight loss is all wrong! The myths that we shouldn't buy into are:
  • Fast weight loss is bad for you
  • All supplements are created equal
  • More workouts = more weight loss
  • Government serving sizes will help you lose weight
  • Almonds & avocados are good for weight loss
  • All calories are created equal

3. Can everyone lose weight this way?

There isn't anyone who can't lose weight by boosting their metabolism! It works every time on the slowest metabolisms, so imagine what can happen if your metabolism isn't slow.

4. What if someone wants to lose weight but doesn't want to give up anything?

That's a funny question and sadly one I get asked every day. "How can I lose weight without changing the way I eat"? Luckily, I have a product to offer them that causes weight loss when they drink it! I tell them to at least start drinking a metabolic boosting protein shake for breakfast and NOT to add sugar or milk, that includes almond milk or any kind of milk, as these additional ingredients raise blood sugar levels which stop fat loss because the body want to save calories for later. The shake nourishes and feeds the muscle and yet starves the fat and you lose weight!

5. Can men follow this plan?

Men can follow this plan and usually lose weight two times as fast, so I suggest adding a bit more protein and veggies . Most men join their wives and that's a winning combination. Of course, the women get upset because the men lose twice as much, twice as fast! That's why women should never follow the diet or workout advice given by men.

6. What should we do when we crave comfort food?

Feed the craving! I still crave comfort food and eat my feelings, but I've changed what's on the end of my fork so that I can eat the comfort food I crave every day. That's why I added over 100 recipes. Be sure to check out the "melt fat fudge"!

7. Dr. Oz refers to you as the Metabolic guru. Why?

Dr. Oz knows I'm addicted to research when it comes to metabolism and that I have struggled myself with a dead metabolism so I really understand how hard it is to struggle which has driven me to find answers to the toughest metabolism problems. I have been able to get people to lose weight that the use of medicine wasn't able to help with.

8.  What happened to you while you were writing this book?

Just about everything that could go wrong did, but at the end I was diagnosed with stage
​one melanoma.  However, I had my "done date" set and I didn't let it stop me.  I actually just finished my last book that I wrote with a surgeon/melanoma specialist from Yale called "Win The Fight", which is about prevention.  We teach people how to naturally boost immunity which empowers cancer patients.  I don't like to refer to myself as a survivor but rather a thriver.  The battle we need to fight the most takes place in our head!  Weight loss is no different. 

9. ​You bring GOD into weight loss why?I found that people who lost weight and didn't have a relationship with God were actually more depressed because food was their best friend. Bringing God into the equation makes dealing with tough times and healing our hurts easier, and we become more fulfilled.  We gain purpose and that changes everything!  I also noticed that the churches where I was speaking had 1 out of 3 Christians who were overweight and that's not God's will so I get into the "whys" of weight loss and how being overweight affects our spirituality.

10.  What about the overweight teens and kids?  Can they benefit from a system like this?

I encourage the whole family, especially teens to jump on the plan with their parents! It's a family affair and we all need support.  This plan is especially good for teens who don't have time to cook and won't bring a lunch to school.
